The Matte Flex Video

The Matte Flex Video

Hi friends. I am very happy to present to you: The Matte Flex, the lead track off Meet Me By The Panamax Barricades, my new release which is coming out on Friday 5th April via Data Airlines. It'll be available on digital/vinyl via my Bandcamp and streaming in all the usual places. But remember - if you listen to it on Spotify without also buying a copy you'll be contributing to THE DEATH OF ALL MUSIC. Unless you're broke, in which case, Soulseek away!

The Matte Flex Video

The Matte Flex video is a glimpse into the world of Telex From MIDI City in all its chaotic-utopian glory. I spent an inordinately long time on it, because it started off as something else, something that, with infinite time available, I would still like to try to make. A kind of custom software environment for listening to and perhaps manipulating music. Not an actual music tool, more like a piece of... noise fiction?

I feel like noise fiction is a good genre that is patiently waiting to exist. Something that isn't quite interactive fiction, isn't quite design fiction, isn't quite speculative fiction, isn't quite a video game, but is some kind of semi-linear audio experience that somehow manages to be more than just a gimmick that holds the interest for a few minutes once and is then forgotten about.

WHATEVS. Inventing radical new paradigms for music is for another day. In the meantime, please enjoy the video. And if you do have any strong feelings about what you would want to do if you had access to a piece of experimental pixel-smashing glitchware like this on your computer for real, then please do let me know.
